Cultural Market a Success!

The weather certainly didn’t dampen the children’s and teacher's enthusiasm for our Cultural Market that was staged on Friday 27 October.

We ended up having all stalls with their delicious food and drink samples set up in the hall and with 160 children eager to exchange their tickets for the foods of their choice it was at times a bit of a tight squeeze.

The children enjoyed going around and seeking out old favourites to eat and trying to find new culinary experiences.

If food smudged faces and full tummies are anything to go by, then it was a great success. You will see from the photos that there was a huge variety of food on offer.

Thank you to all our teachers, kaiawhina (teacher aides) and parents who helped out both supporting the children to prepare the food and being stall holders.

Written Reports Coming up Soon

This is a very busy and also very rewarding time for teachers as they gauge the final progress and achievement of children in their classes. As their main aim is to support the children in their learning progress it’s a delight when they have this progress confirmed. It gives them a sense of achievement and they feel they’ve done a good job!

To this end, teachers across the school are working alongside the children to do final assessments and discuss these with their colleagues. These will help the teachers put together their Overall Teacher Judgments that inform the end of year written reports. These reports will come home on 24 November.

Good Spots

Throughout the year our children strive to demonstrate the Kura values, being Winch Wise by showing kindness, being independent, showing resilience and being curious about their learning and everything around them. We are delighted that at a recent assembly these children were awarded certificates for being WInch Wise at least 100 times - Kyle, Georgie, Billie, Annabelle, Dreh, Oliver, Ryan and John.

We’ve got a Top Team today and this will be followed by our Community Lunch. We hope to see lots of you here at school at 12 noon for this sharing of kai.

Friday 10 November we have a Pyjama Day - the children are invited to wear their PJs to school and bring along a tin or non perishable food item that we will collect and give to a local food bank. There will be boxes outside the office for the children to place their item of food in as soon as they come into school.

Monday 13 November - the school is closed as the teachers have a teacher only day initiated by the Ministry of Education. These days are happening across the motu.

Friday 17 Whole Kura Athletic Sports - you’re all welcome to come and support your child/ren/s attempts at personal best throws, jumps and sprints.
