INQUISITIVE MINDS, CONNECTED KIDS, KIND HEARTS

Carla Pinn —

Privilege of Being A Principal

I have been reflecting on the privilege of being a principal and the pleasure I get from my work. Here are just a few of the special things that I love about my job:

My unstoppable feet that refuse to stay still during school assemblies when the children are singing one of their waiata.

The Monday morning stints out at the gate welcoming in our lovely children and touching base with any mums and dads that drop their children off. These moments of personal connection checking out how the weekend has gone for our children are so important.

The satisfaction of watching some of our young reluctant ice skaters managing to stay on their feet and do a circuit of the ice rink. Even more so, the brave little ones who fell over, and picked themselves up and carried on trying. And watching the children helping each other was incredibly special.

The swell of pride I feel as I watch our Jump Jam team and Kapa Haka group perform, and give it their all.

The gratitude I felt towards all our Mums, Grandmas, Great Grandmas and Aunties for taking time out of their busy lives to come along to our afternoon tea, and also to the Winchester team for all the mahi putting the event together.

The quiet satisfaction I feel when visitors tell me they love the ‘feel’ of our school. We should trust that ‘gut instinct’. It is a more reliable assessment than any numbers and data.

I could go on! It is an enormous privilege to lead as a principal!

Mums and Grandmas Afternoon Tea

Thank you so much to all the special women who came along to our children’s afternoon tea at the end of term 2. It was a pleasure to put on this tea for some of the important women in our community. We know you do so much for your children and so it was great to be able to show our appreciation. We were ‘blown away’ by the large number of women who attended. We were certainly ite aroha - feeling the love.

New Planter Boxes

We are very grateful for the donation of two new planter boxes that Pohutukawa class were happy to put their ‘dibs’ on as soon as they arrived. Thank you to the Temuka and District Projects Fund for considering us when these were available. I can’t wait to see and taste the berries from the raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries that the children are going to plant.

Also we are delighted to accept the support that the Temuka Country Garden Club have offered us in helping plant and tend our vege gardens. Another thanks is definitely in order here.

What a great way to start the Term 3!
