INQUISITIVE MINDS, CONNECTED KIDS, GENTLE HEARTS

Carla Pinn —

A WORD FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Competing At A Higher Regional Level

It’s been fabulous to have some of our older children recently participating in the South Canterbury Swimming Championships and the South Canterbury Athletic Sports. We are still awaiting the final results confirming placegetters for the swimming event but on the day, taking note of the times for the swims we had three children who really stood out for their performances:

● Lucy Johnson came 3rd in the 50 metres

breaststroke and 3rd in the 25 metres

breaststroke.

● Masiy Bowan came 2nd in the 25 metres

backstroke.

● Hayden Young came 3rd in the 100 metres

freestyle.

● Our 10 year old relay swimmers won their

heat.

When the confirmed results come through we may have more!

In the Athletics Sports we were delighted that Sophie Morland came second in the girls under 9 high jump section, and that our under 11 girls made it to the relay finals. Lian Knoetze also went through to the under 11 100 metres finals too. Congratulations to all these competitors.

This extra competition can bring out the best in our children’s performance and it’s great to hear that both these groups of children showed Winch Wise Ways during these events.

Here are a few action photos taken at these events.

Thanks to Ms Jud Baynes

The Boad of Trustees, on behalf of the staff and children,  would like to thank Jud Baynes for the energy and dedication she has shown over the last five terms. Jud began at our school in Term 4 of 2019 as class teacher for Manuka. It’s never an easy job to take over a class this late in the year and with a lot of patience and kindness Jud quickly settled the class into new routines.

It’s been an absolutely crazy year with lockdown and online learning and Jud took all this in her stride and took on some huge learning curves herself getting to know our seesaw technology and zoom meetings.

Sadly for us she is moving on to a new position at Woodbury School. We will miss her sense of humour and caring ways. Wishing her all the best in the coming year.

Thanks for Support for Camp

The Year 5 and 6 children had an awesome 4 days last week, with heaps of neat activities and 2 nights camping out at Orari Domain. Miss Orsler and Mr McKerracher felt blessed with the huge support from parents over this period. A massive thank you to all involved!

End of Year Information

In order to keep you all informed I have already sent out, via email, the main dates and important happenings as we slide towards the end of term with a huge - yipee! Watch out for the childrens’ reports and new classes for 2021 coming through this Friday. These will be sent out electronically via email and seesaw.

I think most of us are well and truly glad that 2020 is on it’s way out and are looking forward to a more settled, normal year in 2021.

Please note that the email also includes beginning dates for the start of Term 1.

Thank you so much for all the support this year. More than ever we’ve felt like teachers, parents and caregivers have worked as a team. We needed to do this in order to get through!

Wishing you, your children and your whanau a wonderful Christmas and summer break.

Nga manaakitanga - With best wishes,

Tre
