A WORD FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Almost There!
Yeah - we are so glad to have had a back to normal first term in 2021. This has enabled us to have lots of events and activities for the children to participate in. Looking back we’ve managed to fit in some great events with activities days away from school for all classes. These visits have taken the children to Timaru, Ashburton and as far afield as Christchurch for a trip to the Antarctic Centre and the Canterbury Museum.
Some of our capable sports children have participated in the South Canterbury Triathlon and our Year 3-6 children have competed in the local interschool swimming sports, plus some have gone on to represent our school at the South Canterbury swimming championships. Continuing the sports theme we’ve had Manuka and Nikau going on an ‘Amazing Race’ and a group of children joining in with the PALs training that took place in Timaru recently. Top this off with an enjoyable Easter egg hunt organised by our young student leaders from the School Council and we feel there have been lots of opportunities for our children to have fun, participate in sports and be connected by learning about our local area.
And there’s more! Coming up next week we are looking forward to our inaugural ‘Blokes Breakfast’ when the children have invited some of the important men in their lives to pop into school and share a cooked breakfast with them. A reminder that this is happening on Tuesday 13 April between 7.30-9.00am.
Then on Wednesday 14 April Rimu and Karaka children have the opportunity of bringing their bikes into school and going through to the Domain to set up some bike tracks and ride around at lunch time. We’re grateful to the TDC for allowing this to happen and hope this is the start of a more regular use of this space.
Finally on Thursday 14 April our hardworking PTA team have organised a Quiz Night being held at the Worseley Hotel. Please come along and support this fundraiser. It will be good fun, you’ll be able to pit your wits against other teams and there are some great prizes on offer for the winners. It should be a good night out!
ANZAC
Over the term break we will hold an ANZAC Service at school on Sunday 25 April at 9am.
This is a tradition that was broken last year because of the lockdown and we are very pleased that we will be reinstating this again. For this occasion we combine with Temuka RSA. We will have members of our school choir singing, and Maisy Bowan, Ashley Looman and Josh Leonard will participate in reading during the service along with Alison Anderson (Padre for the RSA), Ali Talbot (Temuka Community Board) and Charlie Solomon Rehe and Kaye Donaldson. We will be joined by the Temuka pipe band. We’d like to invite our school and Winchester Communities to come along to commemorate this important part of our history and heritage with us.
Term 2 Events and Dates
The teachers have been planning for term 2 and so watch out next week for the parent calendar coming out that gives you information about what’s coming up.
Nga manaakitanga - with best wishes
