A WORD FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Kapa Haka Group Ready To Go
If you were able to come along to last week’s Assembly at Winchester Hall you would have seen and heard the children in our Kapa Haka group giving their debut performance. Not only do they sound strong and clear, knowing the words to the waiata and singing with gusto, they also looked pretty magnificent.
Thanks to some lovely volunteer Grandmas the costumes fit well and make our kids look striking. The face markings representing the tattoos seen on Maori warriors faces and the moko on the wahine’s chins looked suitably fearsome and realistic. Add to this mix the pois and hand actions and it was a sight to behold!
We wish these children well as they take their performance to the Flava Festival being held in the Theatre Royal on Friday. We hope the children enjoy the occasion and participating alongside groups from other schools.
Calendar for Term 4
The new parent/caregiver calendar for Term 4 is finished. Please have a look on our website for this look at the events and notable dates for this term. We try to stick to this schedule but be aware that on occasions we have to make changes. We will let you know about these changes in good time.
Class and Teacher Changes
In Term 4 there will be some exciting changes to teaching in some of the classes across the school:
Mrs Judith Baynes (Jud) will take up her position as class teacher for Matai children and just to confuse everyone, she and the children will be moving into Manuka classroom and may even decide to change their name to Manuka for the remainder of the year!
Mrs Jacquie Coombs - our Deputy Principal - will move through to become classroom teacher of Pohutukawa.
Mrs Julie Donaldson - Whaea Julz - will team teach alongside Mrs Coombs in Pohutukawa three days a week and will teach on Jacquie’s release day. So she will be in class four days in total each week.
As this is the last newsletter before the end of term (Friday 27 September) we wish you and your whanau a pleasant, enjoyable and safe holiday period. Hope the Spring weather is kind to us all.
I’ve been told NOT to climb any ladders these holidays and I intend to stick to this!
Noho ora mai - All the Best
