What's On at Windwhistle - Term 3 - Week 8

Windwhistle School —

Together we learn, grow, THRIVE

Windwhistle Golf Classic

We were very fortunate to be able to hold the 15th Windwhistle Golf Classic during Level 2 at Methven Golf Club last Friday 28th August. We had a playing field of 85 golfers to ensure we were compliant with level 2 requirements. Tournament day dawned mild and sunny with just a mildish nor-west at tee-off! This popular annual event is the major fundraiser each year for Windwhistle School.

The players enjoyed a delicious morning tea before tee-off and packed snacks on course provided by school parents. This year the sponsors enjoyed a BBQ lunch provided by Southfuels. The ambrose tournament was hosted at Methven Golf Club this year and the course was enjoyed by all. Following 18 holes of golf there was an opportunity to unwind and relax in the clubhouse before the prizegiving and dinner.

An auction was also part of the entertainment with George Mannering from Hazletts being the auctioneer for an action-packed auction of donated items such as local experiences, accommodation, meat and art. A silent auction was also popular with “friend against friend” bidding meaning some great funds were raised for the School. The combined auctions were a fantastic success.

A wonderful day out and all in support of a special School.

Results from the day were:

Top Team: Southfuels

2nd: Molloy Agriculture and Sustainable Water

3rd: PGG Wrightson and Canterbury Plains Contracting

The winning team from Southfuels managed to score a 9 under 62 with a course record (for an ambrose event) for their efforts.

The organising committee and Windwhistle School wish say a huge thank you to the many sponsors listed in the advertisement in this issue that played and donated prizes or money to the school. A very big thank you also to Methven Golf Club without whom we could not run this tournament. Special thanks also to Southfuels who not only entered a team but were one of the sponsors that provided the BBQ lunch.

We would also like to say a big thank the school community for all their help! It looks like approximately $22 - $23k has been raised for the school from a very successful tournament, raffle and auctions!

SCHOOL NOTICES:

This week in Piwakawaka we finished our Units on Elections and Statistical Investigation.  The children voted on what they wanted as a morning tea treat and from the results you can see that the chocolate chip cookies won by a country mile.  The children all enjoyed eating their cookies yesterday.

COMMUNITY NOTICES:

Looking for a couple of rooms to rent in the Lake Coleridge area that are dog friendly for 2 couples and a puppy (which will sleep in a crate) for 2 nights, 25 and 26 September, we are wanting to do some walks in the area. Ideally in a family home or cottage that is available or has space, as most of the local accommodation doesn't allow dogs. Please email me on fiona.drum@xtra.co.nz if you can help, or call on 0274968382.
