What does success mean?
Is success always being correct or is it making mistakes and learning from them? Success is built upon a positive mindset and a recipe of persistence, dedication, hard work, good habits, disappointment, sacrifice and failure.
Watching the Commonwealth Games this last week I have been reminded about the resilience required to learn from our mistakes and persevere. Children need to be challenged and feel frustration so that they can feel success when they problem solve and find a solution.
At Windwhistle School we are working on developing a ‘Growth Mindset’ - this is a term used to describe the way in which we approach, view and reflect on challenges. Just as our Commonwealth Competitors train for their events, as learners it takes effort to train our brains in Growth Mindset. The more we train, the fitter our brains become. Growth Mindset builds resilience, courage, and encourages a positive attitude to life.
As teachers we encourage the children to have a positive mindset to challenges, this sense of belief in themselves along with a determination to improve , and overcome challenges ensures that Windwhistle learners are self-managing, inquiring and enterprising learners, contributing to their communities and seizing new opportunities as they strive to be the best they can be.
I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you for my first term here as your Principal. The term has been full of new and exciting challenges and I am absolutely loving getting to know your children, yourselves and the wider community. It's hard to believe that we are a quarter of the way through the year. As we enter the holidays it gives us an opportunity to reflect on how far we have come and also look forward to the challenges ahead. Take care and enjoy some family time during the break.
