SCHOOL NOTICES:

Communication Survey

We believe that effective communication is important to guarantee the success of our learners. This term we have trialed two emails per week. The What's On with general info and the K.I.T. with class specific info. The purpose of the change was to ensure class info did not get lost in the What's on, which was becoming quite large and hard to read (feedback from parents 2019). We are now half way through the term so would like your feedback on this system. Click here to answer this one question survey.

Selwyn Library ECV

The library van will be visiting from 1pm - 3pm on Tuesday the 10th of March.

El Grego - Friday 13 March CANCELLED

This opportunity has been cancelled due to lack of transport. We could have used the bus at a cost of $7 per child but felt the money could be better spent elsewhere as we did not budget for this so would have had to use fundraising money plus parent contributions. The teachers and I are confident that we can teach the Health achievement objectives covered by the show in other ways.

Coronavirus Update

The Ministry of Education has been sending out regular updates to all schools regarding the spread of this virus. All schools and early learning services are still in the Keep it Out phase of a pandemic plan. The preventative measures Health is encouraging schools and early learning services to practice are those of good hygiene, which include:

  • Washing hands with soap and water before and after eating as well as after attending the toilet
  • Covering coughs and sneezes with clean tissues or with an elbow
  • Putting used tissues in the bin
  • Encouraging staff and students to stay home if they are unwell

Wellington Camp (Year 5 & 6)  Monday 6 - Thursday 9 April

Lucy the children and I are busy planning our Wellington camp. There is so much to do in Wellington, the four days will be jam packed with education, learning and fun! So far we have booked flights and accommodation as this needed to be done last year. More recently we have researched places to visit including Te Papa, Wellington Zoo, Zealandia, Parliament, Carter Observaotry, Wellington Museam, Wellington Police, Weta Workshops, Capital E plus more! We simply won't be able to fit everything in but we will do our best.

Our flights depart Christchurch at 7am on Monday 6th and we arrive back in Christchurch on Thursday evening at 9:25pm. This is later than we intended as our flights have been changed from when we booked them. We apologise for this but the alternative was to stay to Friday which I thought was less desireable.

We will be sending out more camp info shortly but if you have any questions please feel free to contact me: principal@windwhistle.school.nz

Garden to Table

A reminder that all children working in the garden need gumboots and if possible garden gloves. Next week we will be repeating today's flatbread - what a yummy success!! Any fresh herbs to add would be much appreciated, today we used dried herbs as our baby herbs in the garden are too young to harvest.

Upcoming EOTC

Kereru's 2nd day trip as part of their "Taonga (Treasure) On Our Doorstep" will take place on Thursday 26 March to High Peak Station. Kathy will provide more information in the coming weeks.

Swimming Lessons

These continue next week. Please send togs every day. The children's skills are progressing well. We aim to carry lessons on for as long as possible this term due to not being able to offer them last term. Lessons are of course weather / temperature dependent. Staff will make the decision they feel is best for the children's learning each day.

Toilet Upgrade

Practical completion was signed off on Monday. Toilet roll holders, mirrors and soap dispensers are yet to be installed. We are extremely happy with the new toilets. They were definitely worth the wait. Feel free to pop in and have a look next time you are at school. We can now look forward to stage two of the redevelopment which involves work on the two learning spaces, plus moving the reception area. Planning has already begun for this and if you are interested plans are up on the wall in the wharenui for you to have a look at.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES NOTICES:

AgriMagic Field Day on the 18th March, at Coleridge Downs

We need parents to donate some items, eg homemade slice, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, tinned beetroot, margarine, apples, bananas, mandarins and pears. We are catering morning tea and filled rolls, slice and fruit for lunch. I’ve already got volunteers to help on the day. Could you please contact me 0274043 or daly@farmside.co.nz to contribute. All the proceeds go to the school. Thanks - Jen D

Windwhistle Golf Classic

School Fundraiser – Windwhistle Golf Classic - Meeting - Wednesday 11 March 7.30pm at the Dalys

Planning is about to get underway for the School’s major fundraiser – the Windwhistle Golf Classic. For those new families this is our main fundraiser for the year and involves running a golf tournament at Terrace Downs.

The date we are looking at for the tournament is Thursday 21 May 2020 but we are just firming details with Terrace Downs and this date will be confirmed shortly.

A group of parents led by Rick Daly organise the tournament alongside Terrace Downs and we need your help!

All are welcome to come to the first meeting to be held next Wednesday 11 March, 7.30pm, at the Dalys house (Leaches Road).

If you would like more information or to find out more please contact Rick Daly (027 483 2278) or Lucy Richards (021 0495288)
