SCHOOL NOTICES:

Room 1: Kia ora koutou. There won't be any spelling this week due to it being a busy week. I have told the children they ARE allowed to practise their difficult spelling words in their notebooks so long as they write it out 5 times neatly (pen is fine) and they only use one page. I have noticed a real increase in accuracy when the children do this. I will highlight any difficult sounds or letters which they are to practise first before giving the book to you to test. Enjoy the break. The children really need it and we will get back into it next term.

ANZAC Service Friday 12 April 11am start

Thank you to everyone who returned their reply slips and indicated that they would park on the grass at the Glenroy Hall and travel the short distance up to the monument by school bus. Can you please be at the Glenroy Hall by 10:40am.

• Wreath making – Room 2 students - Thursday 11 April

The Room 2 children will each be making a wreath on Thursday of next week to present at our Friday's ANZAC Service. Mary Abbott will be helping us with these. The wreaths will remain on display at the memorial until after ANZAC day. The circular oasis is supplied (paid for by the school). Each Room 2 child is asked to bring with them to school on Thursday morning an array of freshly cut foliage suitable for pushing into the oasis. Suitable foliage should have strong stems and leaves such as from the conifer family, hebes, pittosporums, corokia, rhododendron (small leaves rather than large), viburnum. (Flowers with their soft stems and ferns are not suitable, as they will wilt too quickly and fall out). I will have poppies available for each child's wreath to provide extra colour. I will take the children around the school garden to give them an idea of what foliage to bring and will show them photos of how past wreaths have looked. Mary and I will bring extra foliage. I'm teaching next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, so if you have any queries – please contact me (Kathy). Thank you.

• ANZAC Poppies

Thank you to everyone who has already returned their poppy donation money. All money and any unsold poppies need to be returned to me (Kathy Mehrtens) by Wednesday 10 April please. The money will be presented to the RSA at our service.

• Princess Mary Boxes (Room 2)

The children completed their Princess Mary boxes yesterday and they look great! The children will each present their box to NZDF representatives at our ANZAC service who will give them out to soldiers at Burnham Army camp. Yesterday, most of the children took home a copy of the letter they each included in their box.

POOL KEYS - Please keep these coming in, we are still missing quite a few and it would be good to have them by the end of term.

A MESSAGE FROM THE MALVERN NETBALL CENTRE: Hello Schools

Netball is starting up again for the Winter season we are looking for interested players wanting to participate in our Future Ferns programme, this helps players develop fundamental skills in a fun safe environment with specifically trained "star helpers". Players in year 1-4 play an adapted game suitable for their age on a Monday afternoon this will start May 6th and run for 10 weeks.
Years 5-6 play on a Saturday morning in teams of 5/6 this allows them maximum ball opportunity.
We ask that all players register with their local clubs. Any further questions can be sent to juniornetball@malvernnetball.co.nz. Also see the flyer attached to this What's On.
