What An Interesting Find !!
In the weekend Kadee from Te Hapua team found this large moth whilst playing at a friend's house.
She brought the moth to school to show her classmates and teacher. We found out some interesting facts. The moth is called a Gum Emperor Moth, native to Australia but introduced to New Zealand in 1939. These huge moths are nocturnal. The moth that Kadee found was a female that had laid lots of little pale cream eggs. These eggs should hatch out in 7 - 10 days time. Hopefully we might get to see the caterpillars. Thanks Kadee for sharing your find !!
