Woodend Community Traffic meeting with Simon Bridges

Caitlin Loose —

Last week Caitlin Loose represented Woodend School at the local community meeting to discuss issues around traffic in Woodend.

This meeting was to discuss the safety issues around the school crossing on Main North Road and other traffic issues in the community.  There has been a lot of good work done by the students in the past that has contributed to the WDC speed limits changing around Woodend. It would be ideal to have lights at this crossing to ensure all students can cross safely to school. It is a busy road with many trucks and large vehicles passing through Woodend each day. Therefore we see it as a priority for something to be done. It was clear after listening to Matt Doocey and Simon Bridges that it will be a difficult and long journey to try and get the lights or any other road  safety initiatives that will impact on the Main Road through Woodend as this is a state highway and under the jurisdiction of the   New Zealand Transport Association rather than the WDC . As a community we need to keep talking about this issue to ensure there is change. There is a  meeting  planned with NZTA to talk about this more. This will be advertised locally so please keep an eye out and be prepared to come and have a say!

Thank you.
