Te Ngahere - Newsletter #11 - Term 4 - Week 4 - 2025

Mike Crawford —

A month into the term with School Photos, and Camp #2

Camp #2

A reminder that our camp for Mrs Hayes, Miss Loose, Mr O'neill and Miss Gardyne is on 3 -5 of November of week 5 - Lots of Details have been sent out via hero. Please make sure you have paid the $150 by the end of week 4 via the kindo app. A big thank you to all parents who are helping out with transport on the day!

Athletics

On Monday 20th October, we held our Te Ngahere Athletics Day. This was the first time our Athletics Day was run for purely years 4-6 - and what a fantastic day we had!

Athletics

With a mixture of competitive and fun events, students were able to show us their incredible running, jumping and throwing skills!

Well done to Te Ngahere 5 (Miss Wright’s Pakeke) who won the Pakeke Relay (Samar, Vinnie, Noah, Keira, Harper M, Lachy, Donovan & Nixon) and of course, to the staff who took out the Staff vs. Student Relay!

A massive thank-you to our superstar parent helpers who came along to help out for the day - these events cannot go ahead without your help. Thank-you so much!

Athletics

We would love to invite whānau and friends to our special Athletics Assembly held on the senior basketball court (next to the playground) on Wednesday 29th October at 2.40pm. We will be presenting the top 3 in each event with certificates, as well as handing out sportsmanship awards!

Students will find out shortly if they have qualified for the Pegasus Zones. Due to there being a clash with timings, students who qualify for zones that are in Te Ngahere 3,4,7,8 will attend the Rakahuri Zones instead. We have been super fortunate that North Canterbury Sport have allowed us to do this to ensure no one misses camp, OR zones!

A special shout out to Evette, who broke the 60m girls school record, running 60m in 8.88s - what an achievement!

Sports Monitors

Our Sports Monitors have been continuing to blow us away recently with their help and involvement in all the Athletics trainings, and days that have been held at school. These tamariki have been doing an incredible job with supporting sport at our kura. We are beyond proud of our Sport Monitors!

Sports Monitors

Literacy

The classrooms have been learning about the changes that have occurred in popular sports over time, such as safety regulations, equipment and rules. The children designed their own safety gear for F1 racing, thinking about sponsors as well as style. They have enjoyed this learning.

Check out Ella’s writing about being an F1 driver in the Las Vegas Grand Prix! (See attachment at the bottom)

The Hubs have been working on narratives, and how to write more detail characters and settings.Check out Asher's Death Star Description

Space Week

Back in week 1 it was ‘world space week.’ In TN4 we had fun learning about different challenges that astronauts have to deal with in space where there is no gravity, such as washing their hair or brushing their teeth. We created some beautiful space themed art using pastels and blending.

Hats

As we continue into term 4, a reminder that hats are compulsory for all students when outdoors. Please ensure your child has their blue/black school bucket hat each day, and it is named - as we are committed to keeping everyone sun-safe. Students without the correct hat will need to stay in shaded areas during break times.

Camp #1

What a success our first camp in week 1 was. Thank you to all the parents, teachers, and our kids who made it an amazing experience for everyone involved. We will share our camp videos and our google photo libraries for both camps later in the term.
