Kia ora e te whānau - Week 4 in Te Hapua

J Bartlett —

The students have been enjoying learning and growing in Te Hapua this week. Here are some reminders about the next two weeks.

Perform Education Show:  This Friday the students in Te Peka, Te Hapua and Te Awa will be attending a show in the community centre.  This show is based on a children's school book.  The cost is $2 per student with the school covering the remainder of the fee.  Please ensure payment is sent in with your child by tomorrow or alternatively you can pay online.

Swimming:  Next week, the students in Te Hapua will be starting swimming instruction at Dudley pools. Mrs Bartlett, Mrs Graham and Miss Thompson's classes will be swimming 10 am - 12 pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday (no Thursday swim) and Friday and Mr Moore's class will be swimming 12.30 pm - 2.30 pm Monday - Friday with Mrs Fraser and Miss Ryan's class. The children will be going to and from the pools on a bus. The classes swimming early can wear their togs under their uniform as we ill be changing before we leave for the bus.  If you have any questions around swimming including requesting swim times or offers of parent help, please touch base with your child’s pakeke teacher.

News in Te Hapua:  Every day a new student is chosen to be STAR for the day. The student who is STAR for the day will also get to bring in news to share. The students will be notified the day before who is STAR the following day.

Health Topic:  Te Hapua have started the Health and Physical Education curriculum topic - ‘Staying Safe as we Grow’. This program covers the following focus areas of learning:

I am unique, He taonga ahau - Getting to know our name, address, and the names of people we live with. Learning to share our feelings especially when we feel unsafe.

Relationships, Ngā whanaungatanga - Learning about respect and how to be a good friend as well as identifying and expressing feelings.

Growing and Changing, Te tipu me te huri o te tangata - Learning how our body moves, the different parts and how to care for our bodies

Staying Safe, Te noho haumaru - Learning how to stand up for ourselves and others and who can keep us safe

If you have any questions around the Health Unit of work please touch base with your pakeke teacher or if within school time Mrs Fordyce or Mr Retallick.

Morning and Afternoon Programmes:  The morning and afternoon sessions are special times of the day in Te Hapua as we prepare for the day of learning or reflect on our goals.  We love having families in our spaces but do ask that you leave just before the morning bell to enable us to begin our day of learning.  We would also like to ask that younger siblings do not enter the learning spaces until 3pm when the children have been let go.  This is to enable teachers to focus on the reflection time with their class and connect with any individual students before they head home. Many thanks for your understanding.

Pink Shirt Day:  This Friday is Pink Shirt Day and is a day the students are encouraged to wear pink to support the anti-bullying cause.  We will also be unpacking friendship and kindness during our health unit this week.

Sausage Sizzle:  This will be held this Friday as usual.  Orders and payment are requested either Friday morning or if online payment then Thursday.

Have a wonderful week!
