Te Awa Cross Country 2022
Check out this article for details and video of the event.
Te Maunga was tasked with the chance to take on leadership opportunities with creating a fun run. Their focus was getting students engaged and excited about physical exercise. They adapted cross country and added a fun element by using P.E equipment from around the school to create a course. Te Awa were excited about the idea of improving the cross country and making it more fun for everyone.
Te Maunga students worked in a Tuakana Teina relationship, supporting the younger runners through the course.
Students ran a continuous loop for 10 minutes and earned stamps or marks for showing a positive attitude, trying new things and supporting their peers. The obstacles included crash pads, hula hoops, sack races, catching games, hopscotch and the hands-down favourite obstacle was crawling under a parachute. We were so pleased to see that every child gave it their best shot and had lots of fun, even the children who were reluctant gave it a try and enjoyed their afternoon.
Te Awa Teachers and children would like to thank Kiara Arboleda and the rest of the Te Maunga team for organising an amazing event.
