Te Awa Newsletter Week 6

Louise Hayes —

We've had a busy couple of weeks in Te Awa, moving into our new spaces, settling in and rolling with the changes.

Te Awa is a super adaptable group of students. In the few short weeks at school they have adjusted to a few different situations, working from different classrooms, wearing masks, having restricted play areas and getting to know a team of new teachers. They have shown such maturity and understanding through what is a confusing time for all of us. We are all so proud of them.

Teacher Only Day. A reminder that this coming Friday, March 11th is a Teacher Only Day. The teachers will all be at school working on our curriculum. Enjoy the extra day with your families.

Toys. Please can you remind your child to leave toys and other treasured items at home unless it is their news day. As much as we love them to share their toys etc with their friends, it can be a distraction from learning and unfortunately the toys can occasionally get lost.  On news day they will be kept safe in a teacher cupboard.

Mini ball. This week sees the last game in this round of Mini ball. The players have had a great time and learned some skills over the last 4 weeks. Many thanks to the parents / caregivers who transported children there each week. Special thanks to those who stepped in to help out with the teams, your help was invaluable. If your child missed out on playing this term keep your eyes out for information about the next round.

Wider Curriculum. The children have been learning through areas of the wider curriculum. They have an opportunity to experience some Music, Art, making an I-movie, and investigating the world of STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths). Be sure to ask your child what they have been up to in the afternoons in Te Awa.

Wheels reminder.  Te Awa are so lucky to have the scooter track on our doorstep. It certainly is a popular place,  some days we almost need traffic wardens out there! So a reminder that scooters are welcome Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Skates, skateboards and other wheeled footwear can be brought to school on Tuesdays, Thursdays and for Te Awa time on Friday afternoon. Helmets must be worn.

Student Teacher. Rhiannon Cloughley, a 3rd year student from UC is joining us this week and will be working largely in Terence Langlands' Pakeke until the end of the term.

As always if you have any questions, queries or just want to say hello feel free to send an email to your child's pakeke or arrange a time to catch up with us face to face.
