Cycle Sense for year 6
In Week 5 and 6, we are having our free cycle sense course over two days for our year 6s. The students will need to bring a helmet and a bike, unless they don't have one, in which case, there will be a few available.
A separate notice has been sent out today reminding with who will be attending tomorrow's session.
Miss Loose sent physical permissions slips home last week . Let Miss Loose know via c.loose@woodend.school.nz if you need another one.
Interviews
Thank you to everyone who was able to come in for an interview in week 3. We still have a few parents who are seeing us this week. Please be patient as we will reschedule those who were unable to attend due to illness.
Moon and Beyond
We're still knee deep in the Moon and Beyond unit and onto our second rotation. Mr Manzl's group have created planets to accurate scaled sizes. Miss Loose's group have been creating information reports using a variety of means such as the 'explain everything' app, posters, and video to communicate their knowledge. Mr C's group have been through the technological process to create moon landers.
Epro8 Technology challenge
Mr Manzl worked with a group of year 5 & 6 students on a time limit to create a working scarecrow. The kids had a blast! We will be sending a group of 4 to compete in an interschools challenge at a later date in September.
Scooters
A reminder that students are not to ride their scooters between 8.30 and 9am and 3.00 and 3.20. Repeated disregard of this policy will result in students not being able to bring their scooters or bike for the week.
Persuasive Letters, and letters to our heros
Our students have been working on letter writing this last week with some writing a series of persuasive letters, and others writing letters to their heroes.
We're hoping Lizzo gets back to us!
Measurement Strand in Mathematics
Our students have been working to measure the perimeter and area through a variety of activities. Here is Mady's zoo that she had to create to specifications.
Navigating by the stars
Our students have been looking at star navigation and oceans in NZ Histories with Mr Manzl and Mr C. We created some geoboards and practiced making some constellations. See if your student can spot the big dipper!
Cantamaths
A big shoutout to our year 6 cantamaths team who competed at the North Canterbury tournament at Ohoka Hall. After getting stuck on an super hard first question, they persevered and finished around 8th.
