Kia Ora From Te Awa Week 3

Louise Hayes —

It's been a busy few weeks in Te Awa, read below to see what we've been up to and to check what's coming up.

Kia Ora e te Whanau. Nau Mai Haere Mai, Welcome to Week 3. We have been busily getting to know each other over the past few weeks in Te Awa, finding out what we like, what we do in our spare time and how we like to learn.

Literacy and Numeracy programs: Our learning programs are now up and running and the children are enjoying the challenges and new opportunities provided. Your child may be working with a different teacher for literacy and or numeracy. Over the next few weeks teachers will be assessing the students and working out next steps and goals to develop skills and knowledge in both literacy and numeracy. We are also encouraging the students to know what they are learning and why as well as their goals in learning. .

Hats: The children require a hat at school this term. Please name clearly and this will ensure they get returned if misplaced.

Sausage sizzle: We have a school sausage sizzle every Friday. The cost is - $1.50. for a Cookie and $2.00 for a Sausage in bread with sauce. Please ensure the online payment is completed before Friday so that payments can be seen. Our bank account: ASB 12 3616 0031570 00 We are always keen to hear from anyone who has a spare hour or so every now and then to help on our Parent Roster. Please email or see Brenda in the office. b.fordyce@woodend.school.nz if you are available to help.

Morning Tea and Fruit snack. We are making a few changes to the break times. Eating time will be shorter at morning tea, which will hopefully encourage children to not eat everything before lunchtime. Woodend Workout and Fruit Snack will continue, please add a piece of fruit to your child's lunch box for them to eat at this time. (Apples chopped into quarters make eating a little easier for our small people missing teeth).

Student teachers: We have a new student teacher in the Te Awa team this term. Miss Sally Brouard will be in Mrs Hayes' class. We look forward to working with Sally throughout the term.

Scooter track: . On Monday and Wednesday the students can ride on The Scooter track on the Te Awa quad. Students require a helmet and must have their own scooter to ride - no borrowing scooters please. Children are not allowed to ride scooters, roller skates or skateboards any where other than the scooter track.

Wheeled shoes. We have noticed wheeled shoes or Heelys being worn to school. We ask that you please encourage your child to keep these at home, as they are not to worn inside or areas other than on the quad on scooter track days.

Toys. A gentle reminder that toys need to stay at home, unless they are being shared for show and tell. This includes squishies, pop-its and Pokemon and Basketball Cards. Many Thanks for your help with this.

Miniball. The miniball season has begun for Term One. We have two teams playing in this round, The Woodend Stars and The Woodend Comets. If your child is playing please check for notices on Hero as this is the preferred method of communication. If you are not receiving notifications please let Mrs Hayes know asap.

If you need to contact your child's pakeke for any reason please check in before or after school or send us an email.
