Thanks to all students, teachers, and our parent community for a successful term 2!

This term...

Literacy

Through term 3, we will continue to raise our phonemic awareness through oral drills and Liz Kane's 'The Code'. Stay tuned for learning posts on Hero this term to see what reading skills your students have been working on.

Numeracy

We will continue our focus of place value knowledge (the value of each digit) while tackling fractions this term. Those with maths buddy will be getting fractions tasked assigned that while they can do during their maths block at school, will be able to do at home if they wish. As with literacy, you will receive a learning post through Hero.

Wider Curriculum

We are implementing our first NZ Histories unit aligned with the forthcoming 2022 Histories curriculum. We also have a music unit, a brand new S.T.E.M unit (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) and a unit on how to code with 'Scratch' Scratch is an AWESOME free resource on how to learn to code. We encourage parents to make an account and have a go themselves! We will be rotating the students through scratch throughout term 3 and will all have free accounts using their school gmail by the end of the term.

Camp

Thanks to all the prompt replies and offers of help for Camp. It's not far away now! We are currently working on finalising the transport and trailer. We've had an overwhelming amount of trailers offered. We will have a finalised list by the end of week 2 to send out.

We've had a lot of fun both in preparing for our performances, and behind the scenes. Keep an eye on your emails for info regarding production as we get closer to the big nights.

A reminder about costumes -

Thank you to the students that have already handed in their costumes! Students in performance items will require some costumes or specific clothing items please. We would really appreciate it if students could bring the clothing needed for their item (listed below). If you have any issues with this please do not hesitate to let us know.

Hanging tree item - Can students please bring in black, white or camel (tan) coloured clothing. E.g - black pants and a white t-shirt. No patterns would be preferred though please. They will be holding a branch which will be provided. They will need a thin hand held torch please. This will be taped to the branch or held to give the awesome effect of light shining through the branch. Black or white shoes please.

Deeper Underground item - Can students please bring in a black t-shirt and black long pants. These clothes are going to be altered/ripped/painted by teachers. Therefore, please ensure the black top and pants are not nice ones. Woodend School will buy the paint. Bare feet please.

Lyrical Rise up item - Can students please bring in white three quarter leggings/pants (not see through). White singlet top (students with bras please be able to cover up the straps). We are providing a tunic for over top of the singlet. Bare feet please.

All gear must be in a named bag and each article of clothing must be named in case it gets separated from the bag. Can all costumes please be in by the end of week 2. This will help us to have dress rehearsals and to alter the clothing if the student is in the Deeper Underground item.
