A few important notices around our first term in 2021

Happy New year everyone!

We are hoping you were all able to get some quality family time after a challenging 2020. We have a few notices for you to start the year with.

Allergies in Te Ngahere

We have children who are anaphylactic in our team. Both of these children have severe nut allergies.

We are asking that children not to have any type of nuts in their lunch box as we need to keep these 2 children safe. Thank you for your understanding.

Stationery

When your child comes with their stationery on Wednesday , could they please bring a plastic bag (qizzle send their stationery orders with one) to store the remainder of the stationery for the year in our office.

Hats and Polar Fleeces

In the last year we had a lot of lots of hats and polar fleeces left around the school unnamed. Wearing hats is a requirement and part of our school uniform in terms 1 and 4. We have developed a new system to ensure hats are kept in one place while in inside, please ensure your child's hat and polar fleeces are named clearly and securely.

Silent Reading Book/ D.A.R.E (drop everything and read)

To continue improving student literacy, Silent Reading will continue to be a part of our culture in Te Ngahere. We would love your student to bring a book or magazine they like to read for the first week or two. We will be starting our library rotation in week 2. Please note any material considered inappropriate brought will be sent home with your child.

Swimming Week 3
We have swimming sports on Friday the 19th of January in week 3. More details around cost and times with come out closer to the time.

Camp

The dates for camp this year are:

Wednesday, 22 September 2021 to Friday the 24th September 2021.
We will be taking an expression of interest for parents who would like to join and help us on camp this year later in the term.
Expect the pricing to be around $180 to $240 more details on a firm price as we get closer to the time.

Maths buddy

We are hoping that many families have decided to sign up for Maths Buddy year  if you still can't decide the senior teachers agree that of all the programmes we've seen in education, Maths Buddy is the best for value, connection to the curriculum, ease for teachers, and enjoyment for children.

Get a free trial at https://www.mathsbuddy.co.nz/

Both Te Ngahere and Te Maunga will be doing MathsBuddy in school time and making tasks available for use at home.

Considering 2020, we need to be prepared for anything. Mathsbuddy was an excellent resource during the level 4 and 3 lockdown last year.

Basketball

We have basketball trials starting in week 2. More information around teams, subs, uniforms, timetables will be made available as they are locked in.

About my child
Please take the time to fill out this questionnaire, the data will only visible to Te Ngahere Teachers. Our questionairre from 2020 was extremely helpful for the teachers. Also, to help our students learn about each others whanau and be more comfortable in our Te Ngahere community, we are asking for some family photos of you and your child to put in a Te Ngahere 2021 book that students can look at. If you would like to share, please upload a digital picture to this album
