Lucy French - October 8, 2023
Welcome back to Term 4….. Another very busy term for our Te Maunga Students. First reminder that hats are back for this term. It would be good if students had them ready for Tuesday as it is athletics day and we will be outside in the sun. There are a few other dates that we are still waiting on such as the year 8 KHS experience day and our pen pal trip. We will update these dates as soon as we have further information.
Fair Help - Our school fair is this weekend Sunday 15th October - We are asking for our Te Maunga students to support this by helping run stalls during the day. We will complete a roster this week and send out via HERO for those students who offer their support.
Bell Ringing -The 2023 School Year ends on Thursday 14th December and this is when the bell ringing will be held. Students will receive their school yearbook on this day if their school account is up to date. Bell ringing will start at 10:45 and hopefully will be outside. We invite all parents to come along and celebrate this.
Year 8 Dinner- Thursday 7th December- This is a formal occasion that celebrates the completion of your child’s journey through primary school and we ask that you dress in semi formal - formal attire. A reminder that school will cover the cost for students, however parents will need to pay. The cost of this event will be $ per adult. You will receive a formal invitation this week.
Te Maunga Colour Day- is on the 24th November! It is a special day for Te Maunga to celebrate a great year and have some fun. Students will compete in their Whare Manu groups in lots of awesome activities (including some water activities where students will get wet) planned by our Student Leaders. Students dress up in their Whare Manu colours.
Our students have also decided they would like to do a shared morning tea to celebrate. Please could you send a small plate of food to share the morning of 24th of November.
Essential items for the day:
A spare pair of mufti shoes that can get wet!
A towel
A change of clothes
A hat
A drink bottle
An energising packed lunch
Year 8 Evening Assembly - This is being held in the Kaiapoi High School Auditorium on Tuesday 12th December. Please be seated by 6pm. Students need to be wearing their school uniform please. This event is for ALL Te Maunga students. Please email l.french@woodend.school.nz if your child is unable to attend.
Secret Santa/Christmas Mufti Day - To finish our year and celebrate with a bit of Christmas spirit Te Maunga will be holding a Secret Santa and Christmas Mufti Day on Friday the 8th of December. We would love each student in Te Maunga to participate in Secret Santa this year! In Week 7/8, we will send home the name of your child’s secret buddy on it. A gift of no more than 10 dollars will be perfect please. We would like students to think of something they think their buddy would like, based on what they know about them (not lollies or food please). Please make sure the gift is wrapped and has the recipient's name on it, but not who it is from.
The gifts will be handed out on Friday the 8th of December. If you do not wish for your child to participate please email Allie Coyle (a.coyle@woodend.school.nz) by Friday 17th NOVEMBER so we can make sure all students participating receive a buddy.
The Clash
We have been incredibly lucky to be invited to be a part of ‘The Clash’, a new event for Year 7 and 8s this year. The Clash is a competition at the New Zealand Agricultural Show run by Agrifutures where students will be put in teams of 4 to compete in rounds of agricultural tasks. The event itself will be on Wednesday 15th November and will run approx. 9am to 2pm. The students will be split into 2 Rounds so will compete for half of this time. Entry to the show will be included for those participating and they will have the opportunity to explore the show during the time they are not competing. There will also be an area called Pathways set up for them to explore - this is focused on showcasing careers and study opportunities available to students within the food and fibre sector. We have also been lucky enough to secure funding for buses to take us to and from the event, which means that there will be no costs! We are just waiting on confirmation from the bus regarding times but as the event starts at 9am students will be required to arrive at school early.
We will also need lots more parent helpers, if you are able to help on this day please email k.parker@woodend.school.nz
