Click here to find out about the incredible experience Woodends' Kapa Haka Leaders had at Manu Kōrero 2023

Ngā Manu Kōrero is a prestigious speech competition for secondary students, it serves as a significant platform for nurturing young leaders and preserving the Māori language. The competition promotes fluency in both te reo Māori and English while instilling a sense of responsibility in students towards their culture and communities. The event was hosted by Kaiapoi High School.

Since April Woodends' Kapa Haka Leaders; Kahu, Morgan, Eli, Hayley, Sam and Lucas, have been traveling to Kaiapoi High School each Thursday to prepare for Manu Kōrero 2023. Our Kapa Haka Leaders had the excellent guidance and knowledge of Whaea Danna practising weekly for their part in the Haka Powhiri to open the event.

Our Kapa Haka Leaders then got to spend time after the Powhiri listening to some of the amazing speakers presenting that day. They came back from the Manu Kōrero 2023 inspired and incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of this important event.
