Woodend School Newsletter - 6th September 2024 # No: 36

In this issue

Tēnā Koutou Katoa,

It’s hard to believe that September and Spring have already arrived, bringing a new warmth to the air. As we step into September, our thoughts are also turning towards 2025. If your child or a child you know living within our school zone is turning 5 next year, please take a moment to complete our online enrolment form- this helps with planning.

I’ll be meeting with the Ministry of Education early next week to discuss our growing school and the challenges we're facing with property shortages—fingers crossed for some positive news!

School Uniform Expectations

We encourage all students to take pride in their school uniform and general appearance. Please remember that students with hair longer than shoulder length must have it tied back, including those with mullets.

Learning Posts on HERO

Learning posts were updated for students last week. Our vision for real-time reporting is for our staff and senior students to post relevant and meaningful learning content to HERO. These learning posts, along with curriculum information and goals, will build an online report that grows year by year. Over time, you will have access to written posts, images, videos, work samples, and helpful resources all in one place.

Term 4 Teacher Only Day – Thursday 14th November (Week 6)

Please note that Woodend School will have a Teacher Only Day on Thursday, 14th November, which aligns with the Katote Kahui Ako – Kaiapoi/Pegasus Schools cluster. This Ministry of Education accredited day will allow our staff to engage in Professional Learning Development focused on the New Zealand Curriculum Refresh. This day precedes Canterbury Anniversary on Friday, so please plan accordingly.

Ngā mihi,
Andrew and the Woodend Team
