As outlined in two earlier newsletters, the New Zealand Curriculum will transition to a 5-phase model in 2025. This change reflects a more cohesive approach to learning progressions across year levels
Phase 1: Years 1–3
Phase 2: Years 4–6
Phase 3: Years 7–8
Phase 4: Years 9–10
Phase 5: Years 11–13
At Woodend School, we are excited to align our teaching and learning teams with these new phases. Here’s what this will look like for our school:
Phase 1 (Te Hapua & Te Awa):
Te Hapua: Year 1/New Entrant classes.
Te Awa: Composite classes for Years 2–3.
Phase 2 (Te Ngahere):
Composite classes for Years 4–5 and Years 5–6.
Phase 3 (Te Maunga):
Composite classes for Years 7–8.
This structure ensures our students progress through their learning phases in ways that align with the refreshed curriculum, fostering a smooth transition between year levels while maintaining continuity in their educational journey.
