Alex Pledger – Basketball Clinic at The Y Hamilton
Blenheim-born Alex Pledger was a talented young athlete with big dreams to play basketball in the big leagues. His hours of training & dedication paid off when he headed overseas to play college ball in the United States for Kansas City and Belmont Abbey. He went on to play eleven seasons in the Australian NBL from 2009 to 2020, making his debut with the Waikato Pistons. His 7’1” frame and physicality made him a formidable centre during his 9 years on court with the New Zealand Breakers and he brought home four NBL championships.
In 2021, he was forced to retire from the game due to a cancer diagnosis but now he’s back playing the game that he loves with the Southland Sharks – and he’s set to give back to the community with an upcoming basketball clinic at The Y Hamilton.
From 13 – 15 January 2025, future basketball stars between 5 – 13 years will get the chance to be coached by Alex Pledger. They will learn the essentials of ball handling, shooting and passing and get the chance to play in a 3 v 3 tournament & shooting competition. Alex said that “ ..Playing basketball offers so many benefits for kids. Physically, it helps improve their coordination, balance and overall fitness. Plus it’s a fantastic way for them to make new friends, learn teamwork, build confidence and resilience. I can’t wait to meet all the kids at The Y Hamilton…”
If you’ve got a budding basketball star at home, this camp is the perfect opportunity for them to have fun, stay active, and grow both on and off the court.
3 age groups – 5-7 years old, 8-10 years old, 11-13 years old.
