2023 Tuakana Teina

Jo Brooks —

The below names are our students who are part of the Tuakana Teina rōpū (group) for 2023. We would like to acknowledge these students who are giving their time throughout the school week. These students have been chosen as they are flexible, adaptable, and work well with others. We have already seen these leaders showing these skills! At lunchtime, these students are currently supporting our younger tamariki. They will lead WARM conversations to support other students as well as show initiative in organising activities independently. Well done to the following tuakana teina leaders:

Georgia Hoy, Maddie Marinkovich, Milah Watts Emily David, Madi James, Kody-Reign Broomhall, Milah Peters, Layzell Moosman, Sundos Mohamud, Aisha Nour, Ruman Macawiye, Cali-Jade Moosman, Va’Neih Rehua-Williams, Angel Pologa, Cooper Murphy, Lola Frewen, Hazel Blackmore, Stella Jacka, Stella Nugent, Thea Urlich, Samiya Mohamud, Isabella Anderson, Victoria Yap, Paige Larsen, Mason Wallace, Hunter Garrett, Harashish Kaur, Abigail de Wet, Shaylee Beuzeval, Eliah Barrett-Jones, Scarlett Gifkins, Edie Paterson, Salman Macawiye, Fadumo Abdillahi, Hafsa Farah, Sol Masefield, Freddy Park, Muhamed Nour, Oliver Love, Jack Noble, Zion Grey, Finn Mitchell, Nate James.

This student role was formed in 2022 as we were wanting our students to share a tuakana teina relationship, which is an integral part of Māori society, providing a model for buddy systems. In our students' role, older students will support and nurture younger students at break times.

We are excited to have opened the Secret Garden this week, a space for our tamariki to spend some time surrounded by nature. Our Tuakana Teina are supporting to manage this are to make sure it is a safe and fun place to stay at lunch.
