PTA President Barb's Blog
Wow the 2018 PTA this year have hit the ground running!
Firstly, I would like to welcome all our new members. Three quarters of the committee are new members with even two brave fathers joining the female mix.
I would like to update the YMS family on how the PTA is tracking with a quarterly blog which lets you all know how we are going and what your funds are being spent on. If at any stage you feel you may like to join the PTA, please let the PTA team know by emailing pta@yaldhurst.school.nz and we will let you know when our next meeting is. No obligation to join. We have an action packed year ahead of us, so we would love to see you and your great ideas to add to the mix.
Our first fundraiser was The Sausage Sizzle with 100 sausages sold making a profit of $185. Thanks to Philippa Young-Lee, Rachelle Officer and Kelly Smith for your excellent cooking skills, not one burnt sausage!
The hot cross buns from the Naked Baker were a great success. This fundraiser was very popular making a profit of $600! A big thank you to Dani McRae and Sarah Lowery for organising this event.
The fresh produce stall turned out to be a fantastic fundraiser with $270 raised in 1 hour! A big thank you to all the parents/caregivers and teachers who made this stall very successfully. You got some bargains! Thanks to Philippa Young-Lee and her husband for supplying a lot of the organic vegetables from O’Vege Garden and Kelly Adamson (your Tupperware contact) for running this stall. Awesome selling skills ladies.
It was lovely to meet new parents who I spoke to during this stall. I saw many parents looking in from time to time to see how the stall was progressing. We are always looking for helpers on the day, so if the PTA are running an event that you are passionate about, please let us know, we would love your help and knowledge.
Lastly was the Pyjama Day, with children wearing their pyjamas and eating hot pies for lunch. Thanks to Philippa Young-Lee and Rachelle Officer for running this. This event raised $275.
Thanks to these fantastic fundraisers, we have donated $750 towards new library books for the school.
Thank you to those who completed the PTA Parent Survey. The $50 Countdown voucher winner was Sarah Turnbull. Sarah Lowery collated the information and shared it at our last PTA meeting in May.
Our upcoming events for the next few months include:
Entertainment Books $70.00, this is fantastic value! To order:- www.entbook.co.nz/1342f59
Mothers Day Stall – Kids bring along $1-$5 and choose a gift for Mum/Caregiver to have on that special day where Mum gets to have the day off – lol. There is box is in the office area for donations, please help, every little gift counts. Kids buy on Friday 11th May. The kids absolutely love this stall so we really appreciate your donations.
BBQs – We will be running some Sausage Sizzle BBQs for a TR Group sponsored Golf Tournament, Fulton Hogan Open Day (PTA receives a set amount of money for these two BBQs) and Mitre 10 Mega Papanui in June. We would love your help for a couple of hours. A roster will be going up soon. The PTA members volunteer hours of their time each month, which benefits the whole school. I urge you to please add your names to the rosters.
I promise to make this blog shorter next time. Once again thanks again for your on-going support. Our bigger fundraisers like the famous School Disco and Quiz Night will be happening again.
Remember to bring in your extended families, neighbours, and work mates to make this year a successful one.
If anyone knows of any businesses that may be in the position to sponsor a YMS event, please let the PTA know. We would be so grateful.
Many thanks and I hope to meet more of you throughout the next few months.
