Class Placements for 2025
Catherine Corcoran - September 26, 2024
Numbers + Birthdates + Specific Needs
When putting the classes together:
we look at how many children we have at each year level because it is very unusual for our school to have more than 20 children at one year level.
if we need to split a year group we use birthdates (not learning level or ability)
we look at the composition of the classes to ensure they are balanced - ratio of boys to girls, specific behavioural needs etc
The most important thing to remember is that we do not "stream" our classes. If we have classes like we have had this year - a Year 2/3 & a Year 3/4 - we do not put the high ability Year 2s with the lower ability Year 3s, and the high ability Year 3s with the Year 4s.
What does this mean for the learning? We teach your child based on what they can currently do, and move them forward from there. There are expectations of what we would expect to be teaching at each year level, but teaching decisions are made based on individual needs, regardless of year level or class placement.
