Gabrielle Lange —

Seeing all the children trying their best at the cross country last week was wonderful, the great weather and all the family and friends watching helped make it a memorable afternoon. A big thank you to the marshalls who help keep the event safe. We have more exciting physical activity opportunities coming up, so please read on!

West Zone Cross Country Race: Congratulations to The Yaldhurst School Tōtara Tūkaha students who are eligible to go this event after their performance last week. They are: Blake Bromley, Kyle Yee, Emily Toon, Emily Goy, Tatiana Na, Lilly Wright, Ethan Sheffield, Gabriel Canillo, Charles Ramsay, Indi Williams, Layla Sheldrake, Laura Templeton-Clark, Harvey Brocherie, Casey Addison and Cohen Feeney.

University of Canterbury student coaches: will be coming into school for two more weeks. The children are responding so well to the activities the students are providing. When that finishes, the new activities begin.

Year 1-4 students: 8 weeks of  Football skills training with Christchurch United.  CUFC has offered us their 8-week skills programme for free. They will come in every Thursday afternoon for the last weeks of this term and the first few weeks of Term 3.

Senior Winter Sport: This will be different from the last few years as Hornby High were no longer able to offer their assistance. From Week 6, Rimu will be training in school - on Wednesday afternoons in teams for football, basketball, volleyball and Ki o Rahi. On Friday 5 July, the last day of term, our teams will take part in a tournament with other schools from our kahui ako. Most of the sports will be at CUFC, but basketball will be at Hornby High. I am hoping we can have parent transport for this. We will also need at least one parent to support a team as the football coach and I may not be able to attend. If you are a Rimu parent and can help with this event, please email Gabrielle or Tian. Term 3 Winter sport will be the same with four different sports being offered, finishing with a tournament on 30  August.
