Swimming Pool

Our swimming pool will not be open over the December/January holiday season.

The Yaldhurst School Tōtara Tūkaha Board realises the importance of the swimming. Our school was very fortunate to have a refurbishment of the pool surrounds as well as new seating installed. The pool has also had some improvements made to the fencing and gates.

Our board has looked very carefully at the Health and Safety Rules for the daily pool water testings and treatments necessary for our pool water. The requirements are very stringent. Put simply, it would take a number of adults to give up a days at work to attend a course, complete an assessment and carry out a project. This would be at a considerable expense for the school as well as to the volunteer adults. These adults would then have to agree to being rostered on through the school holidays so one was always at the school pool. Our board agreed that there are just too many factors that could go wrong.

Our board has adopted the approach that health and safety is paramount and that we will not try to adopt any shortcuts that could compromise the safety of any pool users in community.

School staff have been enrolled in the required pool management course so that the pool will be ready for swimming lessons when school starts in February 2025.
