Wednesday evening 26 January 1876 Yaldhurst School was officially declared officially open and ready for instruction.

Mr Hall was a member of the first Yaldhurst School Committee.

Interesting facts:- Not only the Yaldhurst School Headmaster but was also a part owner of an old London Library known as the "Hookhams Library" he was also the Chess Editor of the "Canterbury Times" and 'President of Canterbury Chess Club", he won the 1870 "Canterbury Chess Tournament" - I think he may have unknowingly, been the first YMS HERO too!

In 1904 the Yaldhurst School Committee was made up of women who were elected to govern our school. Now let's fast forward 3 years to 1907. The 'Lyttelton Times Newspaper' publish an article. In the Centennial Celebrations 1876-1975 Miss Freeman shared her memories of being a teacher at our school. What you are about to read was published in the Centennial Celebrations 1876 -1976. The celebration took place over two days, Saturday 24th - Sunday 25th January 1976. It is a fairly long story, therefore to be fully enjoyed, it may be best served with a cup of tea.

In 1920 when this school photograph was taken, 50 students were in attendance. The following article has been written using only information from the Board of Trustees' Minutes that were recorded during 1920.

The Chairwomen said simply that she had no fault to find with the way men had done their work but they could not be expected to understand children as women did....... Oh dear what were they thinking? 🫣

The Yaldhurst Board of Trustees' approved the build of the school pool using the school committee raised funds. The Yaldhurst Model School Pool was built in 1896.

The 75th reunion of Yaldhurst Model School students held on Saturday 3rd March 1951
