Newsletters And Messages
This year, we have made some changes to our communication channels. Our aims were to make our communication clearer, more timely and easier to keep track of.
Newsletters now come home weekly. We hope that they are more concise and share whole school information that is relevant and gives you enough time to be organised. Newsletters are stored in the @school app, with a brief summary of the content, so if you are looking for something from a previous week, it is easier to find what you are looking for. They also have the same format for the subject line, so if you are searching for them in your email it should be a lot easier.
The screenshot below is from the @school app, showing how the newsletters are stored and indexed.
Unfortunately, the current platform only allows us to send home newsletters school wide, so each team has started using the messaging function to send home team or class information.
Here is the information that you need to be aware of for Term 2;
Newsletters and team information will no longer be automatically emailed home. If you want to continue to receive information by email, you will need to adjust the settings in the @school app. You can find all the details in this newsletter.
Newsletters will still be published on the school website.
If you are having any problems with the app, you can complete this form. Someone will get back to you within 5 working days. It sometimes helps us to collate questions and go back to the provider before responding to people individually.
To make sure we are supporting everyone the best we can, please complete this survey. It will only take a minute and gives you the chance to give feedback as well.
Community Support
At Browns Bay School, we are all very fortunate to have such a hard working and committed Friends of the School volunteer group. The recent Ice Block sales have been really fun and we are looking forward to the last one of the summer on the last day of term.
FOTS have lots of events planned for the year and would love your support. If there is anyone in our community who, (through their work), holds a bar manager`s licence, could you please email teresab@brownsbay.school.nz
Travelwise Day
Thank you to Mrs Vermeij for organising the Happy Hats Travelwise day last Friday. It was lovely to see so many children taking part and using sustainable transport to get to school.
We know it is more difficult in Term 2 with the unpredictable weather, but please keep encouraging children to walk, (even a short way), whenever possible.
A note from Mrs Vermeij:
"Seeing so many BBS students using sustainable transport on our Happy Hats Travelwise Day was wonderful. Our bus bay was virtually empty. The careful thought that the students put into designing their amazing hats was truly impressive. Our school was a rainbow of colours. What a fun day! Let's all continue to do our best to be TRAVELWISE!" (See winners pictured here and our Photo Gallery at the bottom of this newsletter for more).
School Notices
Bicycles/Scooters
Only Year 5 and 6 children are allowed to ride their Bicycles and Scooters to school independently. If you would like your child to ride to school, please get a permission form from the school office to fill in - your child will then be given a Bicycle or Scooter License and a High Visibility vest.
Children in or below Year 4 who ride their Bike or Scooter to and from school must be accompanied by an adult and wear an appropriate safety helmet.
All children, regardless of year level, riding a scooter to school, must complete a permission form from the school office and will be issued with a Scooter License.
School Events
Peer Mediators/Friendship Games Co-ordinators
At Browns Bay School, students are lucky to be provided with so many wonderful leadership opportunities. This term, the Year 6 Peer Mediators and Friendship Games co-ordinators have done a wonderful job of supporting our students. The Peer Mediators have been out in the playground on a daily basis during lunch playtime, helping the younger children to resolve issues. Meanwhile, the Friendship Games co-ordinators have learned some fun games through our training sessions, which they have been playing with the Junior students.
