It has been a very busy and successful term.

Term 1 has certainly flown by. We have been a hive of activity. Enjoy our zoo creatures pictures.

What an amazing first term all of our Year 7 team have had.

This term’s futsal season has been a great success. All Balmacewen teams represented the school with enthusiasm and pride.

With 10 teams entered in the Oval Junior Tournament Balmacewen was well represented with touch teams.

Group A have finished their time in the foods room after cooking up a storm over the past 11 weeks.

Week 10 saw the interschool clash between Southland Boys High School and Balmacewen.

Today Balmacewen were blessed to have legendary sportswoman Suzie Bates come along to school.

Group D have just finished with their time in the kitchen for their first rotation.

This term we had five teams entered into the Thursday weekly competition.

The feedback was conclusive; what an excellent array of projects and deeply explored ideas. After a term of exploring new technologies and resources, it was clear students enjoyed putting their new skills into practise for our final exhibition. I particularly enjoyed the cardboard constructions, animation and Makey Makeys. The learning certainly is not over, in-fact this is just the beginning and students are already looking at ways to improve their design and presentation for next time.

Year 8 students have been working hard to complete aprons, drawstring bags and screen printed t-shirts.

The first two groups of Year 7 students in 2018 have completed their first project in the Fabrics room.

Well done to the following Balmacewen students who competed in the 2018 Otago Junior Tennis Open held at Logan Park in March.

Last week the Balmac Room's 7, 8 and 14 Zoo was presented at our parents sharing night. The students have been working on this term's ASPIRE inquiries to create, make and present an invented creature that would survive in the habitat of their choice.

Congratulations to Room 2 who took out the beginning of year Tug of War tournament. They truly showed commitment and perseverance in an excellent display of competitive team work.

The vision hearing technicians from Population Health, Southern District Health will be visiting our school to screen all year 7 students for distance vision. Screening is not required if your child wears glasses/or is currently under care for their vision. If you do not wish your child to be screened please contact the office as you will need to complete an opt-out slip.
