Lot's of great activity and plenty to celebrate in this newsletter!

A very warm welcome to our Year 8 Whanau and friends.

Last week our Year 7 students were surprised by our ignitor activity for our PBL unit for this term. We are working alongside Football South on a integrated programme based on Māori myths and legends integrated into Football skills and games. This also runs alongside the current Women's Fifa World Cup. So, off we went to the South Africa vs Argentina game last Friday afternoon.

Well done to all of our students for taking part in our school cross country last Friday.

Our Year 8 ãkonga are proud of their efforts in the Fabrics room. They used their machine skills to sew a cotton heat bag before designing a cover to make it nicer to hold. All covers used hand sewing and machine sewing. Check out some of the completed outcomes. Many more are under construction.

The smell of amazing pies are wafting around school this week

Term 3 in Hard Materials is full of budding furniture designers in Year 7.

Year 7 Art have been working with clay and creating their own warrior over the past few weeks

Recently one of our students took part in the Ministry of Inspiration Aquabot competition in Christchurch. Cameron has been working on his design and programming his robot over the last few months.

On Sunday, August 6th the Balmacewen Intermediate School Choir sang at a special concert to farewell Olivia Pike.

The final group of year 7 students have had their turn in the foods room.

Our cushions are complete for 2023! It has been a feel good week in the Fabrics room seeing our last Year 7's finish their cushion and inner. They have proudly taken them home to show off all of their new learning. Check out some of their awesome fabric choices. Tino pai to mahi!

Year 8's in both Art and Hards have been creating miniature homes out of cardboard.

This term our writing focus has been on poetry and tying this in with emotions. We have been using personification, strong verbs, the senses and other language features to enhance our writing. Check out some of our poems.

It has been a busy time recently for the orchestra.

Over the holidays the speed limit along Chapman street changed to 30km.
