Celebrating the achievements and dedication of our multi-talented music students
On Tuesday, October 20th, the Aurora Centre was filled with music and applause to celebrate the accomplishments of our 2020 music students.
The night began with a performance by the BHS Funk Band, who won Best Ensemble at this year's JazzQuest. The ceremony then included performances from the Chamber Orchestra led by student conductor, Robert Gaudin, and SMP Jazz Combo 3, which achieved a Gold Award at this year's JazzQuest. The night also included inspirational addresses by our Principal, Mr Phil Holstein, and BHS Alumni (now first violinist in the Vienna Philharmonic), Benjamin Morrison, who recorded a heartfelt message from his home in Europe.
Certificates were awarded for Service to Music (based on a minimum of two years continued involvement in an ensemble or a leadership role) and Achievement in Music (based on awards earned in competitions etc. throughout 2020). Despite the fewer number of contests and events in 2020, overall there were still 172 students awarded on the night.
Congratulations to all staff and students of the music department on a successful 2020!
