Jade Vesty 12NMRR and Oli Heaton 11SBUC represented our school with distinction at this event, held from 15-18 October at Waterworld, Hamilton.
There were some very tired swimmers from all schools by the last day of the meet. The NZ Secondary Schools Swimming Championships had to be rescheduled due to Covid-19 so it was pleasing that all schools from around the country could finally participate in a National event.
Despite comprising a team of just two, both Jade and Oli had an excellent meet, finishing 80th out of 123 high schools from around NZ.
Next year’s Championships will be held in Auckland from 22-25 July. This is a very big, yearly national event that sees the majority of the best secondary school-age swimmers attend, including Juniorr World Champion, 16-year-old Erika Fairweather. It would be great if more swimmers take up this opportunity next year.

200m Backstroke 16 years - 7th
100m Freestyle 16 years - 8th
200m Individual Medley 16 years - 8th
