This team was a combined team, with the majority of players attending Burnside High School, along with a handful of Riccarton High School and Hillview Christian School students.
It was a bit of an up and down season for the team in the Canterbury Metro competition, they started off with some stunning wins, but found things a little bit tougher once the grades were reshuffled and they were placed in the 1st Division. Despite the second half of the season being harder for the team, these young men displayed an impressive attitude and spirit in every game they played, when the going got tough they continued to hold their heads up and give it 100% right to the final whistle every single time. This spirit and resilience was recognised by the Burnside Rugby Club and was rewarded with the team being awarded the Burnside Rugby Club Best Conducted 15-a-side Team Trophy.
On Sunday 09 August, the U16 BHS Combined Rugby team hit the road and travelled to Kaikoura for 'friendly' game (well as friendly as rugby gets!) against the Kaikoura High School 1st XV. The Kaikoura team was incredibly welcoming, getting proceedings started with a Haka and providing a shared lunch for both teams. The weather was perfect for a game of rugby and our boys played an amazing game, winning 45-27.
A huge thank you to the coaching and managing staff of Glenn, Jacob, Dan, Jo and Claire - you have been amazing this year. Thank you also to Brent Frew and his team at the Burnside Rugby Football Club for administering and helping to support this team throughout the season.
