China Study Tour 2018

On 12 April, 19 boys headed to China for their two-week Chinese Language Study Tour with two teachers. For the majority of the students in the group, this would be the very first time for them to visit this grand ancient country. The group would visit the main cities of the Yangtze River Delta - Shanghai, Suzhou, Hangzhou, the ancient Chinese water town WuZhen, the Yellow Mountain (Huangshan), completing the journey in Beijing.

The brave performance of the School and College 1st XV's on College Day reflected the amazing maturity and resilience that modern students are capable of whilst reminding us of the centrality of a supportive community in developing these fine young men.

The award is made at the Founders Day assembly in May and the recipient is invited to address the boys.

Ko te reo Māori he taonga

Te reo Māori is one of the treasures of New Zealand culture. The Māori language is a taonga, or treasure, something that is indigenous to Aotearoa and is an expression of living here. A younger generation of people, from all backgrounds, are increasingly interested in learning to speak the language.

College Match

There was visible excitement on everyone’s faces as students packed the buses to Christ’s College, 50 at a time. Last year’s defeat was fresh in the back of everyone’s minds and we were all extremely passionate about winning this year. Getting off the bus outside the school, you could hear the chorus of voices rising on the wind. This was only a small representation of what was to come.

Be Seen, Be Safe

It is great to see so many boys still cycling to school. However, I am concerned about the number of students that do not have lights or high visibility gear on them. Unfortunately, our school uniform is dark and our school jacket is black. With the longest day still to come, having we are facing another couple of months of dark mornings and also earlier darkness if the boys have practice after school.
