In October, the Southwest Hub hosted two sessions with Brett Harvey from Tāima Kōrero – Time 2 Talk, focused on helping teachers and whānau navigate the fast-changing world of online safety.

Last week, Marian College hosted an inspiring wellbeing workshop in partnership with Komodo Wellbeing, a platform designed to help schools proactively monitor and improve student wellbeing.

Kaitiakitanga means guardianship and protection. It is a way of managing the environment, based on the Māori world view. A kaitiaki is a guardian. This can be a person or group that cares for a specific area, such as a lake or forest. Kaitiakitanga is based on the idea of humans as part of the natural world, and that there is a relationship between the two. All life is connected.

In January 2019, I went to Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Centre, located in Jerusalem, Israel, to study pedagogical approaches to the Holocaust. I was selected for this unique Professional Development along with 29 other History teachers, as part of an initiative run by the Holocaust Centre of New Zealand in tandem with Yad Vashem.

On Tuesday, August 8th we held our first Christchurch Catholic Kāhui Ako Student Wellbeing Forum.

The purpose of a Teacher-led Innovation Fund is to provide funding for groups of teachers to develop innovative practice in order to improve learning outcomes, particularly for Māori students, Pasifika students, those with special education needs and those from low socio-economic backgrounds. Central to the purpose of the Teacher-led Innovation fund is the sharing of effective practice.
