As we come to the end of an 11 week term, I look back at all that has happened in this short space of time in the College and I am truely amazed. The highlight for me was the Fair last Saturday, our first since 2019. We are really grateful to the Parents Association, volunteers, staff and students who made this day such a success, as well as to the wider community for your support. What a fabulous day was had by all at what almost felt like our inaugural Columba College Fair on Saturday. It was fantastic to see the college campus a-buzz, after a five year hiatus, with bargains, entertainment, stalls, activities and food galore. Even the weather was on our side.

As a College we are committed to valuing and protecting the school day as a time for our students to engage with teaching and learning opportunities and communicate face-to-face with each other in a positive and respectful manner.

Columba College had eight students attend the South Island Secondary School Athletics Championships in Timaru last weekend, and some impressive results were achieved!

Year 8 students experienced a wide range of activities during their recent camp at Deep Cove, Patea / Doubtful Sound, Fiordland.

EPro8 is a Science, Technology, Maths, and Engineering competition in which teams must work together to solve an engineering problem.

We are thrilled to share some exciting news from the recent Dunedin Interschool EPro8 competition, where Columba College's Year 7 and Year 8 teams showcased their engineering prowess and problem-solving skills.

On Wednesday 10 April we had the first International Student Sports Day for 2024. It was a curling and ice skating "have a go" session at the Dunedin Ice Stadium.

To celebrate, the Year 10s created short videos about basic German Language and Culture to share with the rest of the school during form times and at assembly.

This year we set up a Staff vs Student competition within the College to build connections and camaraderie while celebrating the 'Columba Spirit' across our entire community.

The Year 1 and 2 students brimmed with enthusiasm as they joined Rose in the garden.

With the winter sports season fast approaching, Dunedin Netball are offering some great development opportunities over the coming months. Make the most of these chances to polish your skills and improve your game play for the season ahead!

On Monday we joined together with the Year 1 and 2 class for a fun STEM Lego Challenge, (STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). We heard the tale of “The Three Billy Goats Gruff” and thought about how to cross the river safely. We came up with ideas like swimming and jumping over rocks or fallen trees. But we decided a zip line over the river would be a super cool and troll-proof plan! Our job was to build a Lego creation that could zip down the line without breaking or going too fast. On Tuesday the Year 5 team participated in a very challenging technology competition held at Dunedin North Intermediate.

It was with huge pleasure that we welcomed Māori whānau and their daughters to our first ever Whānau Hui last Thursday.

Four Seasons by Tylah - Year 13.

This is an exciting opportunity for any student to enter this prestigious speech competition. There are sections for both Māori and Pākehā students and a Junior and Senior section.

This term in Year 6 we have been focusing on leadership. We began the year by looking at our unique gifts and strengths and thinking about the ways we can use these to show leadership in the Junior school this year.

Columba College is still in need of a number of netball coaches for this coming winter season. Whether you think you have the necessary experience and skills to give netball coaching a try this year or not, we would love to hear from you!

The 2024 Otago Primary School Swimming Championships were held on Sunday at Moana Pool with over 370 swimmers competing in the event, including swimmers from Wanaka, Balclutha and Oamaru.
