Principal's Kōrero...
We've had a fabulous few days at Waikuku Beach this week as a part of our Beach Education programme.
All of our students were engaged and participated with enthusiasm in the events on offer. We were proud to receive feedback from the facilitators about how well-mannered, brave, and respectful our Cust tamariki were on each of the three activity days. Great job, team!
This week, you will have received at least one important form to fill out via Hero. If you haven't already actioned these, please do so. Not all are required for each student:
All students: Permissions and Contacts form
Students using the school bus: Bus Code of Conduct form
Year 4-8 Students only: University of Canterbury Research permissions
Thanks so much for your support and diligence with this - I know that the paperwork feels relentless right now!
This term, we are encouraging ākonga (students) to acknowledge and build up their peers through genuine compliments and showing gratitude. Research shows that this not only contributes to the wellbeing of those who receive the compliment, but also significantly to the one who gives it. One way that we are doing this, is through our 'Mana Mailbox'. When a student spots another upholding our school values, they can fill out a slip and post it in the special mailbox, stating who they saw, what they did / said, and their own name. We will select one or two prizewinners from the box each week at assembly. We are one day in, and the box is already looking pretty full!
Have a fantastic weekend,
Miriam
