Multicultural Manaaki Centre Diversity Workshop

Hamilton Boys’ High School is proud to be one of the most supportive schools in the country for its former refugee students. This diverse array of students, of all year levels, from countries across the world, make up the Multicultural Manaaki Centre that has been successful in its goals to assist and further the education of the former refugee boys at HBHS. At the Multicultural Manaaki Centre, we are committed to the development of these students, and helping them grow into well-rounded members of the school community.

On Wednesday the 29th of September, we were honoured to host Fabria Mostafa, PhD, an English tutor from the University of Waikato with 20 years of experience as an educator. Mrs Mostafa helped lead the boys through a workshop, alongside student helpers, to create a better understanding of diversity among the members of the Multicultural Manaaki Centre, in a fun and innovative way. Through group discussions and games, the importance of diversity and the importance of acceptance were presented to the students in a meaningful way. This exciting experience was one that the students of the MMC will hold on to for their time at HBHS, and has helped them develop new perspectives on the world around them.
