Futsal

Another successful season for HHS Futsal. We had 11 teams entered in the Waikato competition, each team developing their skills and achieving well in their league. Two highlights were our two title wins.

Term 4 Season Wrap up:

Our Junior Prem girls won their league title last friday, beating Waikato Dio Junior 5-1 in their final game. These girls battled hard all season, coming away with some great results and showing incredible development throughout out the term. Coach Sean McLeod was very proud of the effort these girls put into their training and games.

Our Senior Prem girls won their final on Monday, beating Waikato Dio Snr 7-0 in a thrilling final played here at the Fortress (HHS Gym). Our Senior girls team had a shaky start, but under the expert guidance of coach Olivia Hooper, turned their season around and proved just how capable they are. Both of these girls teams are proving they will be a force to reckoned with next year at nationals.

Another notable achievement is our Yr9 Boys Prem team finishing 2nd in their league, which mostly consisted of Yr10 teams. This was a new team, coached by the very knowledgeable Mike Groom. These boys have developed an amazing culture and work rate as a team. We look forward to seeing these boys compete at the national tournament in Wellington next year.

We have two exciting new appointments to announce this term for Futsal at Hillcrest. Joining our existing team of amazing coaches we have a new head of coaching in Michael Groom and a new skills coach Jordan Ditfort.Recently appointed as the Director of Futsal Coaching at Hillcrest High School, Michael Groom is a celebrated Football and Futsal figure, both as a player and a coach. With an impressive 22 caps for the All Whites, and legendary All Whites Coach John Adshead's endorsement as 'the most gifted and talented player in the country,' Michael Groom is an incredible acquisition for our programme. As well as his impressive playing career that makes Groom a notable figure, he has also taken on the role of a coach, inspiring and nurturing talent, including All Whites Chris Wood, Sapreet Singh and Marco Rojas. In addition Futsal Whites John Penyas and Elliot Collier.

With his remarkable experience, knowledge, and dedication to both Football and Futsal, he is well poised to inspire a new generation of athletes to reach for greatness, just as he did in his illustrious career. The future of Futsal at Hillcrest is indeed bright under the guidance of this legendary figure.

Jordan Ditfort is a notable alumni of Hillcrest High School, known for his exceptional talent in Futsal. Currently, he proudly represents the New Zealand national Futsal team, showcasing his skills and dedication on an international level. Jordan's journey from Hillcrest High School to the national team is a testament to his hard work and passion for the sport. As a Futsal player and coach, he has demonstrated remarkable abilities, contributing his own success and that of the players he has coached. Most recently, Jordan was a part of the New Zealand squad who won the OFC Futsal Nations Cup, which has gained New Zealand qualification for the upcoming Futsal world cup in Kazakhstan. Jordan's achievements serve as an inspiration to aspiring athletes, highlighting the potential for greatness that can be nurtured within the walls of Hillcrest High School. It is an absolute honour to have him working with our students and coaches this term.

With these two on our side we aim to take Hillcrest Futsal to new heights. This will include taking senior and junior prem teams to tournaments next year in Term 1. There isn’t a better time to get involved in Futsal and sport here at Hillcrest.
