Hockey Success
Jin Boyd (Sport Captain 2023) was selected to play for the Waikato-Maniapoto Wahine A team at the recent National Maaori Hockey Tournament held at Palmerston North over Labour Weekend.
This was Jin's first appearance at the tournament which is fiercely competitive, with many former and current elite level hockey players representing eight rohe from around the country. Players also participate in a po whakangahau. "Standing up on a stage and singing in front of hundreds of people was something I expected to be terrifying, but since I was singing alongside my team I only felt proud and not at all scared... This is something that I wouldn't experience at any other hockey tournament and I am so grateful I got to be a part of it."
