A Heartfelt Success for Huggable Hearts!

We are thrilled to share the success of our recent Huggable Hearts Rice Drive!

The drive aimed to support Huggable Hearts, a local charity who craft fabric hearts filled with rice. Each Huggable Heart is weighed to the exact weight of a baby who has passed away neonatally or in utero, and provides a tangible memory for bereaved parents nation-wide. Our junior students, staff, and members of the Hillcrest community united in the spirit of giving, surpassing our goal by collecting over a TONNE of rice! This remarkable achievement reflects the generosity and compassion that define our Hillcrest community.

Andrea Olliver-Thompson from Huggable Hearts wished to share that:

“Words cannot express how thankful myself and the Huggable Hearts team are for the amazing effort you all put into the rice drive!

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each contributor for their incredible efforts in collecting well over a tonne of rice for us at Huggable Hearts. We are blown away by the amount that has been donated and collected and cannot thank you all enough.

Your dedication and generosity have made a significant impact and will help lessen the financial burden of the purchasing of rice for us to use as custom weights for our loss families.”

A special congratulations goes to 9GD for their outstanding effort in collecting the most rice (a total of 174kg), as well as the individual prize winners for their accumulated amount. Staff collectively donated 271kg and the following teachers won the prize draws: Miss Telfer ($100 Lookout Bar voucher), Mr Turner & Ms Cash ($50 Ethos Voucher).

We extend our gratitude to the businesses that generously donated vouchers and services, enhancing the incentive for participants and contributing to the overall success of the initiative: Burgerfuel, Redwoods Treewalk in Rotorua, Ethos Café, The Lookout Bar, Escapist, Penny’s Bookstore and Subway Silverdale.
