Library Fun

Week 4 was National School Library Week and we joined the rest of Aotearoa with some fun activities to highlight our library and try to entice students who aren’t usually library users to come in and have a look.

To kick off the week we covered mini chocolates with book covers and students and staff alike thought this was a fun idea and liked to pick their faves.

We had a daily competition which changed each day and included ‘How many bookworms in the jar’ & ‘Guess the weight of the books’. We also hid shiny tickets around the school to be found and exchanged for a small prize (think Willy Wonka). These competitions were very popular.

We ran activities at lunchtimes which included badge making, Hama beads and a house competition where house teams had to match teachers to their favourite books. We also ran competitions for the ILC & PAC and there was a staff competition too.

Our winners of the design a sticker competition from term 2 got to see their stickers being worn all round the school as they were released especially for Library Week. We packed a lot into a week but the students had a great time (and so did the staff).

Later in the month we had Open Mic Poetry on World Poetry Day and had some great poems read and a little bit of improv too. Everyone who was brave enough to speak got a small prize. A great way to spend a Friday lunchtime.
