Newsletter Issue 1, Term 1 2024

A Note From Mr Spaans

Here we go Hukanui, the first newsletter for 2024, the first week has come and gone and we are already well underway.

It has been awesome this week to see our families, whānau and students returning for 2024 and watch Hukanui start grinding back into gear. This is always a positive and affirming experience as your children reconnect with their peers, forge connections with new teachers and begin the next step in their learning journeys. I did note that we did have quite a few very excited mums and dads who were quite keen to hand their children back into our care after a long break! At the same time the start of year gives us the opportunity to welcome all our newest students and their families to to our place. I have no doubt that they will come to love Hukanui as much as we do.

Many of you will have noted that we are a hive of building activity at the moment with works initiated on the old 1970's original C Block building and toilets and the recent completion of the Hall demolition. These are exciting times for Hukanui and it is our earnest hope that the classroom and toilet renovations will be completed some time in Term 2. Unfortunately this does mean that we will have to endure some minor discomfort and frustration as works progress. I know that after 4 years of significant property works, we can do this. As always we will endeavour to keep you updated as we go.

In regards to changes taking place in 2024 you will also automatically note that we have a new newsletter format. This has been three years in the making and will hopefully make it easier for us to populate and for our community to access. As you can see our IT gurus Mike Fitness and Holly Greenfield have done an incredible job and that the new format will translate into multiple languages if required. Please do be aware that newsletters will now only be sent out fortnightly. Trying to get out weekly editions is just not sustainable or practical.

Welcome to 2024 Hukanui and I look forward to catching up with you all in the days and weeks to come. Nau mai hoki mai. Leo
