Mt Cook Geography Field Trip

One Year 12 geography study focuses on the balance between ensuring the National Parks accessibility to visitors and ensuring sustainability in Aoraki Mt Cook National Park.

Twenty-six Year 12 geography students departed for the Mt Cook Village on Monday 9th May for three days. Staying at the Mt Cook village YHA, the boys were treated to the company of a variety of visitors who listened and watched attentively as Reon outlined how to stick a pig and some of the finer details of hunting. 

Despite the Glacier Explorers boat trip on glacial Lake Tasman and the Helicopter ride being cancelled due to continuous rain  the boys experienced the full effects of the Northwester, DOC staff talking on Human Impacts and  village infrastructure, Planetarium and Hilary Centre movies, Red Tarns and Governors Bush walks, rapidly changing Tekapo township, Salmon Farming and filleting.

Always a memorable journey and destination and one many will return to for a taste of the spectacular natural world.
