Welcome to the October update from Te Rōpū Tautoko, the group coordinating Catholic engagement with the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care.

In this update we review some of the key work undertaken in response to the Inquiry.

Major milestones in Tautoko’s work

Roadmap

Bishops and congregational leaders (church leaders) have been active in listening to the themes that have arisen from the Commission’s work, especially from survivors.

This listening translates into concrete actions that church leaders are implementing. The Tautoko Roadmap sets out the approach, commitments, and actions being taken.

The design work for an independent redress system and redress scheme is underway. The high-level design of the new redress system is being developed by a design group supported by an advisory group drawn from diverse survivor communities.

Information on the development of the new redress System can be found on the Crown Response Unit website.

In September the members of the Design Group released an update of their work:

Once the Assessor has been formally appointed, there will be an announcement and the timeline of work published.

Prayer

E te Wairua Tapu. Holy Spirit.

Grant us courage and wisdom, humility, and grace, so that we may act with justice and all may find peace in you.

Strengthen us for the journey ahead, as we venture along paths unknown, as you call us all into communion.

Amen.
