Milk Factory Visit

Last week the Agriculture Club and the Marine Science Club visited the Westland Milk Factory and Wadeson Island Wetland Restoration in Hokitika.

We learned how the factory produces milk powder and butter in extremely sterile conditions on a massive scale, 24/7 365 days a year. It was an eye opening experience to see the production line, and learn the destination of our milk products. We are very grateful to Westland Milk for this opportunity.

We then went to visit the Wadeson Island Wetland Restoration, this is right next to the milk factory, and Westland Milk supports this project along with the Department of Conservation, the councils, Conservation Volunteers NZ.

Mike from MBC Environmental showed us the weed removal and native planting they have been doing to improve the habitat for native species, including whitebait.
