CNN Call to Earth Day

On November 8, 2023, CNN are holding the third annual Call to Earth Day. Celebrating a planet worth protecting, they’ll partner with schools, individuals and organizations across the world to raise awareness of environmental issues and to engage with conservation education. John Paul II High School will be joining them.

A survey was sent out to junior students to see what interest there might be and what students wanted to do on the day. Seniors will be on study leave and we wish them well for their upcoming exams. November 8th is a Wednesday, so it fits perfectly with the pedagogy for the day and will not interrupt educational lesson time. The majority of the answers came from Year 9, but there was an overwhelming desire to take part, only 4 students were not interested.

When asked about the focus the students wanted to have, beach / river clean-up was the most popular, closely followed by tree planting.

The amount of time to be allocated to their endeavours was a little more mixed,

If YOU want to help, offering time or resources (trees for planting, rubbish bags or gloves for the clean up etc.) to help the students we would love to hear from you. Or maybe you know of an area that needs our help, please let us know.

We will have a meeting at the start of next term to make the final decisions. Anyone will be welcome to join the lead team. Harriet Boddy, Aleesa Jestine, Dewi Briggs and Addison Richardson will be leading the group.
